Triglycerides

What it is

Triglycerides are the most common type of fat in the blood, transported mainly in VLDL particles. Levels respond quickly to recent food and alcohol, so they are usually measured fasting.

Why it matters

Raised triglycerides often travel with insulin resistance and metabolic issues, and are associated with higher cardiovascular risk. The triglyceride-to-HDL relationship is sometimes used as a rough marker of metabolic health.

What “optimal” looks like

Lower levels within the healthy range are generally preferred. Because diet and alcohol move triglycerides substantially, trends over time matter more than a single reading.

This is general information, not medical advice or a diagnosis. Always discuss your results with a qualified clinician.
